Javanese Kuluk

At the court of the Sultan of Yogyakarta, the Kuluk was worn by high-ranking military officers of the Prajurit Njutra corps, as part of their gala-uniform. Over this head covering is then placed the metal band called the garuda songga gelung and – on the bun at the rear of the head – the decoration in the shape of the Garuda bird, with wide-spread wings.

Javanese Kuluk, middle of the 20th century.
